Trips and Visits

At Noah’s Ark we view outings as a way of involving all parents in the life of the nursery and the overall education of their children and visiting different places is a way to extend the children’s learning beyond the classroom and also to have lots of fun whilst doing so! Many parents also find that being involved in school outings is a good way to develop friendships and to foster a sense of community with other Noah’s Ark parents.

We are especially keen to explore places that promote involvement and interaction for the children to foster their enthusiasm and joy in learning. Outings in the past have included the Science Museum, Kew Gardens, the Wetlands Centre, Horniman Museum, Dulwich Picture Gallery, the V&A Museum of Childhood, London Transport Museum, Fulham Palace, Holland Park Ecological Centre and Bocketts Farm. All of these venues have exciting educational programs alongside opportunities for lots of enjoyment and fun.

We also offer local community outings e.g. regular visits to the library, weekly access to Wandsworth Common and exploring other aspects of the local area.

• Using the local environment enables children to develop a sense of belonging to their local community. It helps them to develop a sense of place which in turn will develop their feelings of security, and “strong bonds to a particular place endure”. Through developing this sense of place, it leads to having a pride in their local community
• By developing a sense of place, children can begin to take some responsibility for looking after certain aspects of it. They can be included in problem solving and to learn about environmental issues in meaningful situations. By having repeated visits to the same place they can begin to identify features that change over time as well as those that remain the same. For example, a deciduous tree will alter as the seasons progress over time, however an evergreen tree will more or less remain the same. The built environment provides many opportunities to think about the different professions people are involved with.
• Children learn best through first-hand experiences and going out into the local environment, or even further afield, enables children to explore and experience the different features found locally to them. Using these first-hand experiences enables children to develop a deeper comprehension of the Understanding the World Area of Learning particularly People and Communities and The World.
• By using and exploring our local spaces with interested and motivated adults enables the children to ‘catch’ the interest and gain a sense of ownership of being part of the local environment, and a pride in their locality.
• Prior to any visit you will be sent information outlining details about the trip. Some outings incur a charge whilst others are free.
